At a mere 2 and a half, Ava has had her first shoplifting theft. I know Mama should be mortified and disapproving but I just can't be, she too little and the whole thing gave me quite a chuckle. Now I'll preface this all by saying that this happened on Grandma's watch, not mine. Yes Sally, you can take the heat for my lawless child and I'm forever grateful for this cute story.
So one that fateful day I opened the front door to find Ava returning from the grocery store with brown teeth saying "Mama, I'm nibbling chocolate." Turns out she grabbed it at the checkout and the cashier couldn't be bothered to rectify the situation when Grandma pointed it out. Now this forbidden treasure was Ava's very first taste of chocolate. I'm proud to say my daughter chose a very high quality dark chocolate too - might as well do it right. I learned that Ava was told she needed to share the chocolate with Mommy. But when I turned my back Ava looked at me and said "I put the whole thing in my mouth". Not wanting to fish out a molten chocolate bar from her mouth, the kid got to indulge in all her glory just before nap time. Now, don't ever do it again kiddo.
I'd like to hear more shoplifting kid stories. I'll bet there are some great ones out there. I don't think I have one of my own (let me know Mom) but I remember my brother getting sent back in to the QFC to take back a pack of Hubba-Bubba.
