We're imagining that having a 3-year-old is good training for a teenager. The highs are high and the lows are low. This little one will get upset at the tiny things that are interfering with her day (not being allowed to throw folded laundry) and beam with joy at the things that are making it go right (running around naked with chalk and water in the yard). As parents we have to help unravel the mysteries that set her off, let her work them out on her own and be there to support and guide her when needed. Learning the fine balance of being nurturing yet firm is certainly an education for parents but a worth endeavor and a gift of patience.
I'm guessing we'll see this face again when Ava is 16...
... and this one too.
Hugs always make things better.

Beautifully said. Ava (and Hazel!) are lucky to have you and Erik as parents.
