Hallelujah!

Last night, at 15.5 months Ava finally (for the first time ever) slept through the night, safe and sound cozy in her little crib. She has always been a crummy sleeper, waking up 2-6 times a night. Letting her cry it out doesn't fall into out parenting comfort zone and as two full time working parents we've just needed to do what we can to get some sleep around this house. This has meant many a groggy morning and late night rocking chair visits. We just resigned ourselves to the fact that she would start sleeping longer when she was ready, and apparently she decided that time was this week. So here's to more restful evenings and cheery mornings in our future.

However, if you ever wanted to know what would wake you up faster than your child crying, we found that out this morning too. While Ava was still sleeping at 5:30am we heard footsteps running past our bedroom window and someone was yelling "fire, fire!!" We'd confirm that would be enough to make anyone spring into action. Five fire engines and countless police cars all flashing and blaring piled into our little block of Derby Street moments later. After confirming that no, it wasn't our house on fire we checked on little Ava still softly snoring.

So on our first morning of a sleeping babe we were still wide awake. A sign? I hope not.

yea - I'm sure there are many many more sleep filled nights in your immediate future. I've already forgotten what that feels like :)
