Hazel's 4th of July Bash

We had a few friends over for a 4th of July BBQ to celebrate Hazel. I've honestly never liked the 4th since it's seems so rowdy and we're not fans of fireworks. But the holiday has a whole new meaning for me since I went into labor on the evening of 4th just one year ago. I will never forget laboring with Erik outside with all the noise and the lights. We'd walk down the street, stop for a contraction and point at the bright lights we could see over fences and rooftops. It was a wonderful distraction that night and perfect celebration to welcome this amazing little girl.

Hazel is not walking yet but we're in no hurry. She is a super speedy crawler and will occasionally knock her self over when she is going too fast. Here she is practicing her standing with a cheering crowd.

She was pretty mesmerized by everyone singing happy birthday to her.

Mommy botched not one cake but two and managed to save it with whipped cream that was nearly turned into butter. Don't worry, the cursing was not done in earshot of children and everything tasted excellent. Now I hear you saying "Just buy the cake next time!" but I just love having something homemade for them.

Yummm, creamy goodness.

Some serious giggling with Nora at the bubble machine.

She cracks me up when she hangs with the big kids. They are so patient and affectionate with her - and then off like a flash to something else. Ava gets pretty protective and possessive over her sister when there are lots of kids around.

Until next year's BBQ... perhaps a tradition in the making. But I have a feeling she may hate the red, white and blue festivities at some point. We shall see.
